Make complexity useful · Strategy · Innovation · Human-governed AI

Human potential is infinite.

Technology should help us reach more of it. I work with leaders on questions where strategy, technology and human behaviour collide—turning complexity into practical choices that expand what people and organisations can do.

The idea behind the work

Technology becomes valuable when organisations change what they are capable of doing.

A new tool is only the beginning. The test is whether people can do something they couldn’t before, whether more people can participate and whether the change creates value that lasts.

Start with what people could do. Then shape the technology, systems and governance to make it possible.

Ways to work together

Bring me the problem that crosses boundaries.

I work best when an issue won’t stay in one lane: a strategic decision shaped by technology, people and organisational change. We start with what needs to become possible.

01 / SPEAKING

Give people a new way to see the problem.

Keynotes and executive briefings on innovation, human-governed AI and the choices leaders can make now.

02 / STRATEGIC SESSION

One hour. A clearer next move.

A private working session for a leader facing a consequential decision, a complex opportunity or a problem that resists an easy answer.

03 / ADVISORY

Change what the organisation can do.

Executive advisory on complex enterprise questions: setting direction for innovation, AI and agentic transformation, and the organisational change needed to make them work.

04 / WORKSHOPS

Get the right people into the room.

Facilitated executive workshops that bring the right people together to test assumptions, surface tensions and build shared direction.

Speaking

The future is shaped by the questions we are willing to ask.

Jim brings technical depth, executive perspective and humour to questions that shape the future of work. He makes difficult ideas clear without making the people in the room feel small.

Innovation beyond the idea

Why ideas rarely change an organisation on their own—and what must shift in its systems, incentives and capabilities for innovation to matter.

Human-governed AI

As AI agents take on more work, governance must become infrastructure: built into how systems operate, with accountability and human judgement clear.

Neuroinclusion and better thinking

How cognitive diversity can strengthen problem-solving, and how leaders can design work so different minds can contribute fully.

Keynotes, executive briefings and facilitated conversations. Topics and format are tailored to the event and the work ahead.

A different way to think about resistance

An organisation’s immune response is information.

Organisations have an innate immune response: people and systems—legal, risk, security, governance and frontline teams—whose job is to protect them. When they push back on change, listen for what the response reveals: what the proposal might disrupt, where trust is thin or where accountability is unclear.

Listen first; then design the guardrails. Make them useful, visible and proportionate so good ideas can earn trust and move.

Governance becomes infrastructure for responsible change.

Executive strategy session

Bring the knotty question.

A 60-minute strategic working session with Jim for a leader who needs space to think clearly about a consequential challenge. Bring the context, the constraints and the question you have not been able to resolve.

About Jim

Where technology, strategy and people meet.

A lighter moment from Jim’s TEDx talk about what innovation means.

“You don’t have to agree with my definition of innovation—but I’m the innovation evangelist, and I have the microphone.”Jim Hogan · TEDx

The joke gets the room talking. The work begins with the harder question: what do we mean by innovation—and what should it make possible?

Jim Hogan believes in the infinite potential of humanity. Technology should help us reach more of it—and the future is something we shape deliberately, together.

Jim works where strategy, innovation, technology and human behaviour meet. He is brought into important, complicated problems that cross disciplines, helping leaders make sense of complexity and turn emerging ideas into practical capability. Technology becomes valuable when it changes what people and organisations can do.

Jim is Founder & Principal Strategist of IWJ Global, the former Chief Innovation Evangelist at Google Cloud, an international keynote and TEDx speaker, and a doctoral researcher in innovation. Across more than three decades in technology and transformation, he has worked with senior executives and organisations across North America, APAC and EMEA. He is based in Brisbane, Australia.

His lived experience of disability and neurodivergence informs his perspective on human agency, cognitive diversity and inclusive innovation. In a Webby-recognised conversation with Vint Cerf, Jim explored disability and technology from a personal and practical perspective. His current work spans innovation strategy, organisational change and human-governed agentic AI.
